Avian influenza infections in poultry farms in Egypt, a continuous challenge: Current problems related to pathogenesis, epidemiology, and diagnosis

چکیده

This study's main objective was to update avian influenza (AI) epidemiological situation, including molecular characterization reassortment analysis and genotyping of circulating AI virus (AIV) subtypes in Egyptian poultry farms between 2017 2019. As a necessity for such work, improved diagnostic tools were developed AIV detection. Subtype H9N2 infections detected 27 out 39 examined frequently mixed with high pathogenic (HPAI)AIV H5N8 22/39 farms. Next-generation Sanger sequencing helped define novel reassortant HPAIV H5N2 low (LPAIV) Egypt. Systematic confirmed at least seven genotypes HPAI H5NX viruses clade 2.3.4.4b three LPAIV Several internal genes AIVs previously wild birds Egypt represented the genome reassortants both HP H5Nx suggesting local processes.

Economic epidemiology of avian influenza on smallholder poultry farms☆

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is often controlled through culling of poultry. Compensating farmers for culled chickens or ducks facilitates effective culling and control of HPAI. However, ensuing price shifts can create incentives that alter the disease dynamics of HPAI. Farmers control certain aspects of the dynamics by setting a farm size, implementing infection control measures, a...

Controlling avian influenza infections: The challenge of the backyard poultry

In recent years the economic damage inflicted by several avian influenza (AI) subtypes (primarily H5N1 and H9N2, but also H7N1, H7N3, H7N7) on the commercial poultry industry and backyard poultry is beyond simple calculation. In response to the continued losses suffered by commercial poultry producers large scale vaccination has been introduced in many affected countries for the commercial sect...

Avian Influenza Vaccination of Poultry and Passive Case Reporting, Egypt

We investigated the influence of a mass poultry vaccination campaign on passive surveillance of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype (H5N1) outbreaks among poultry in Egypt. Passive reporting dropped during the campaign, although probability of infection remained unchanged. Future poultry vaccination campaigns should consider this negative impact on reporting for adapting surveillance stra...

Avian influenza vaccination in Egypt: Limitations of the current strategy

Vaccination of domestic poultry against avian influenza (AI) has been used on a large-scale in South East Asia since 2003 and in Egypt since 2006 to fight H5N1 highly-pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) epidemics. The decision to use mass vaccination against HPAI in Egypt was taken as an emergency measure based on positive impact of such control measures in Vietnam and the People's Republic of Ch...

Applicability of Wireless Activity Sensor Network to Avian Influenza Monitoring System in Poultry Farms

Since there are cases that chickens infected with highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses die with almost no fever, body-temperature sensing cannot be effective for the early detection of avian influenza (AI) infection in these cases. In addition, sensors directly attached to the body surface are easily affected by their surroundings, therefore it is not easy to measure the body-temper...
